This season’s surprise collaboration: Palace x Polo Ralph Lauren
Skater style meets preppy - Palace and Polo Ralph Lauren have taken everyone by surprise with their new capsule collection collaboration.
- The story begins in Tokyo. A poster is spotted that would seem to suggest that London skateboard label Palace is collaborating with Polo Ralph Lauren. Following on from the logic of Louis Vuitton’s Fall/Winter 2017-2018 runway collaboration with Supreme, a casual, preppy new take on skater style awaits us. The Supreme x Louis Vuitton collaboration marked a historical first for fashion, the first time a streetwear label had worked alongside a luxury fashion house, with the power of a classic atelier behind it. Now, in a surprising move, Polo Ralph Lauren has taken up the mantle. Palace brings a newer, younger and more streetwise clientele to the American label. Launched in 2009 by Lev Tanju, Palace prioritizes logo-heavy looks and retro inspiration. Although not much is known about the collaboration yet (except that it is a truly unexpected development), a singular image has been revealed on Instagram. A predominantly yellow sportswear-inspired look, with patchwork-like pants printed with a horse’s head – a wink to Polo Ralph Lauren’s logo – and a pair of Palace-printed loafers.
